Starting FluidRay RT from command line

With the latest version of FluidRay RT it’s possible to import files directly from the command line.

First of all, you need to find the installation location of the executable file fluidrayrt.exe.

For example, it could be in C:\Program Files\FluidInteractive\FluidRay RT Demo x64\fluidrayrt.exe.

You could then import a file from command line by calling C:\Program Files\FluidInteractive\FluidRay RT Demo x64\fluidrayrt.exe -i <file to import>.

Of course, by adding the path C:\Program Files\FluidInteractive\FluidRay RT Demo x64\ to the system PATH environment variable, you would just have to call fluidrayrt -i <file to import>.

How to Make FluidRay RT Materials Emit Light to Create Luminaries

FluidRay RT Tutorial on how to make a material emit light to create luminaries.

Besides environments, another way to create realistic looking lighting is by creating luminaries. In FluidRay RT, every surface can emit light. To make a lamp for example, just import a model representing the lamp and assign an emissive material to the light bulb. This video will cover:

  • Make a material emit light
  • Adjust emission intensity
  • Quickly apply emissive materials from the library using drag & drop

How to Edit FluidRay RT Materials to Make Them Transparent

FluidRay RT tutorial on how to use a texture mask to create transparent materials like leaves or billboards.

Complex organic objects such as leaves and plants require certain areas of the model to be transparent. In FluidRay RT a quick way to add transparency to materials is by using the “Obj Scattering” node and connecting an image texture to the “Opaqueness” attribute. This video will cover:

  • Use the Material Testbench to create custom materials
  • Change the scattering property to “Obj Scattering” that supports transparency
  • Assign textures to the proper attributes to create a leaf material
